Special Investigations Unit

Overview

The Boone Police Department has maintained a dedicated effort in the area of narcotics enforcement since the early 1980s. The philosophy of the Narcotics Unit is to use all available resources and technology to apprehend persons involved in the possession and distribution of controlled substances. We believe that our responsibility does not end with the local apprehension but will strive to cooperate with other authorities to eliminate the sources of supply for controlled substances coming into our jurisdiction. Our effort is enhanced through close cooperation with local, state, and federal agencies. Currently, two investigators are assigned full-time to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), but they work closely with the General Investigations Unit. As a part of our community service, the Boone Police Department offers drug and substance abuse education tailored to the needs of your business or organization.

Internet Crimes Against Children

The SIU is also responsible for all Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigations. Officers with the Boone Police Department are members of the North Carolina ICAC Task Force. The goal is to protect children from the dangerous individuals that use the internet to prey upon the innocent. Our agency takes this responsibility very seriously and our investigators work daily with local, state, and federal partners to get this job done. On occasion, these investigations lead to the rescue of children from abusive situations all around the world.
