Traffic Safety & Reconstruction Unit

Overview

The Boone Police Department Traffic Unit is comprised of highly trained and experienced officers. Their duties include investigation of traffic crashes, particularly those with serious personal injury or fatalities. The unit is also charged with reducing and preventing the number and severity of traffic crashes. 

The Traffic Unit accomplishes these tasks through enforcement based on the locations of crashes, the time, date, and offense causing the crashes. The unit also utilizes aggressive DWI (Driving Under the Influence) enforcement, public education, and speed deterrent and detection devices. The Traffic Unit solicits input from the public regarding traffic issues in their neighborhoods and the Town of Boone. In addition to crash analysis, this is one way we identify areas requiring special attention.
