The Boone Police Department has had an active Canine Program since 1990. We currently have four canine/handler teams in the patrol division. Each team undergoes rigorous training and annual re-certification programs to maintain proficiency and readiness. The purchase of canines has been accomplished through community donations.
The Canine Program provides a unique tool within the patrol division. Patrol division canines have been instrumental in locating hidden narcotics, finding fleeing suspects, locating lost persons, and protecting officers and citizens. Canine/handler teams are available for presentations to local civic, church, school, or other groups that would like to learn more about our dogs and their capabilities.
