Music Lessons

Music Lesson Being Taught Inside the Jones HouseBoth group and private music lessons are offered at the Jones House. The Boone JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) program offers small group music lessons for kids age 7 and over and adults in traditional styles of the region for fiddle, clawhammer banjo, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and sometimes other instruments (like dulcimer) or dancing (flatfoot!). Lessons are offered in two 15-week sessions, one in the fall and one in the spring. The Boone JAM program is an affiliate of the Junior Appalachian Musicians organization (www.jamkids.org). The program also receives support from the North Carolina Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts. Private lessons are scheduled based upon instructor availability. Group Lessons

The 14-week fall semester begins on September 7. Classes are held weekly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at the Jones House and begin at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes. An end of semester recital will be held in December.

  • Cost: (for fourteen 45-minute sessions)
    • Students 7-17: $75
    • Students 18 and over: $125
    • Sibling Discount: $25 discount for each additional student
    • Instrument Rental Fee: $25 per semester

Private Lessons

The Jones House is now offering private one-on-one music lessons for the summer. Private lessons offer the opportunity to get personalized instruction that caters to individual goals. Each student will be paired with a skilled local instructor based upon availability, instrument, and skill level. Instructors will engage with students via one-on-one sessions. Instruments offered include guitar, banjo, fiddle, ukulele, mandolin, and more.

  • Cost: (for five 30-minute sessions) 
    • $100 for children (17 and under)
    • $125 for adults (18 and over)
